Things became noticeably tense on Friday’s episode of Loose Women after a political discussion spiralled into a prickly on-air clash between Gloria Hunniford and Kaye Adams.

The panel — also featuring Judi Love and Jane Moore — were discussing mounting pressure on Keir Starmer amid calls from some within the Labour Party for him to step aside.

But what began as a fairly standard daytime TV political debate quickly started resembling Prime Minister’s Questions with better lighting and brighter blouses.

Gloria, 86, argued: ‘The average public are fed up from the very beginning of the Labour party came in,’ before Kaye attempted to jump in.

‘Just let me finish my bit,’ Gloria firmly told her co-host.

Kaye then pushed back, saying: ‘The thing is Gloria, you have an election, you vote in a government.

‘We voted in the Labour government, if the people decide they don’t want a Labour government, then they vote them out.’

However, Gloria refused to back down.

‘What you’re missing is the mood of the people,’ she insisted.

Kaye replied: ‘You can’t talk about the mood of the people Gloria.’

Things became even more awkward when Kaye directly asked her fellow panellist whether she personally voted Labour.

‘Did you vote for the Labour Party this time?,’ she asked.

Gloria bluntly shut the question down, responding: ‘I’m not telling you who I voted for.’

As the discussion grew increasingly heated, Gloria eventually raised her hand in frustration and snapped: ‘Kaye, just give me one second for goodness sake to speak.’

At this point, Judi appeared to realise the atmosphere had become approximately three interruptions away from requiring a Speaker of the House.

‘This feels like parliament to me,’ she joked.

Even after the attempted comic relief, the tension continued simmering beneath the surface.

‘You can talk all your politics,’ Gloria later remarked, as Kaye pulled an awkward expression and laughed.

Viewers immediately flooded social media with reactions to the clash, with many convinced the disagreement felt far more personal than the average daytime TV debate.

‘First the Labour Party were turning on each other, and now the Loose Women are turning on each other. Whatever next,’ one viewer posted on X.

Another wrote: ‘Kaye Adams really does not like Gloria Hunniford.’

Others sided firmly with Gloria during the exchange.

‘I agree with Gloria. The other two need to shut up,’ one viewer commented.

Meanwhile, one particularly dramatic viewer accused Kaye of ‘verbally attacking an 86-year-old woman because of political opinions’.

Which may be slightly overstating matters, but by Loose Women standards, it was certainly frostier than your average debate about air fryers or celebrity memoirs.
