Lost actor Harold Perrineau has revealed that one of his co-stars has refused to speak with him for over two decades.
The 62-year-old actor played Michael Dawson across four seasons of the major American drama about a group of plane crash survivors on a desert island.
The show was gory and violent, with no character safe from the risk of dying in any given episode.
In the season two episode, Two for the Road, the show aired a shocking plot twist as Michael went on a murderous rampage, killing off two fellow survivors, Ana Lucia (Michelle Rodriguez) and Libby (Cynthia Watros).
Although Harold was not responsible for the plot (that would have been down to the showrunners Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse), he claimed his co-star had never forgiven his fictional slight and totally iced him out.
He explained: ‘This is really weird to say, but one of the actresses to this day still doesn’t talk to me.’
‘I’m like, “I didn’t write this! I’m doing what you’re doing – I’m doing my job,’ he added to The Independent, describing the anonymous star as ‘wildly betrayed’ at what his character did.
Ultimately, Michael too met the same fate as Ana Lucia and Libby after he sacrificed himself in the season four finale in 2008 (later appearing in one episode in the final season).
Harold himself has been vocal about the difficult terms on which he left the show.
In 2023, the From star opened up about his uncomfortable observations from set, alleging: ‘It became pretty clear that I was the Black guy. Daniel (Dae Kim) was the Asian guy. And then you had Jack and Kate and Sawyer,’ he revealed in Burn It Down: Power, Complicity, and a Call for Change in Hollywood.
He shared his feelings that the characters of colour were sidelined and specifically raised concerns with the showrunners over a season two storyline in which Michael is separated from his son but never asks after him.
‘I don’t think I can do that,’ he thought at the time. ‘I can’t be another person who doesn’t care about missing Black boys, even in the context of fiction, right? This is just furthering the narrative that nobody cares about Black boys, even Black fathers.’
Damon and Carlton have never publicly addressed Harold’s experience.
Since leaving Lost, he has appeared in shows like Sons of Anarchy, Wedding Band, Constantine and Criminal Minds.
Most recently, he has returned for a fourth season of the horror-thriller series From, in which he leads an ensemble cast as Sheriff Boyd Stevens, who lives in a small town from which its inhabitants can never leave.
