With the investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie now extending into its third month, there is little in the way of encouraging updates. Law enforcement have seemingly come no closer to tracking down the location of the victim or the identity of the suspect involved since she was taken from her home in Tucson, Arizona
A former prosecutor has now revealed that it could take years for the case to be solved if no one comes forward. That would leave her various friends and family, such as “Today” host Savannah Guthrie, without any closure for a potentially very long time.
Former Prosecutor Matt Murphy Says Nancy Guthrie Case May Not Be Solved Quickly
Matt Murphy, previously an Orange County prosecutor, said he believes investigators will eventually get answers, but warned that without someone coming forward with information, the process could take yearsâsomething he says is not uncommon in cases like this.
While discussing the case on the “Prof Jo Explains” YouTube channel, Murphy explained that it could take years before someone comes forward with information that leads to the arrest of the suspect involved.Â
“I think, eventually, theyâre going to catch this guy,â Murphy said. âThereâll be answers. But it may takeâI mean, I did cold cases that were 15, 20 years old sometimesâso, itâll take a while. I think somebodyâs gonna have to talk.â
The legal expert then went on to discuss the motive in the case and how there doesn’t seem to be any definitive reason behind the kidnapping with the current available evidence.
âRight now, it could be absolutely anything, right? Could be sexual assault, could be a kidnapping gone wrong, could have been a, I mean, theoretically, could have been a burglary,â he told host Jo Potuto. âPart of it is, we havenât seen the inside of the house.â
Nancy Guthrie House ‘Immaculate’ After Kidnapping
GettyDespite the fact that blood was found on the front porch of Nancy Guthrie’s home following her disappearance, something that law enforcement publicly confirmed, there has not been much information released about the state of the rest of the residence.
Now, an inside source has revealed has given an indication of how the home appeared to investigators when they arrived on the scene. The source described the house as “immaculate” and that there were “no signs of assault” inside, suggesting that there was no struggle inside the home.
â[This] makes sense when you go back to what Savannah Guthrie said, that when her sister and brother-in-law showed up, they werenât sure what happened,â said News Nation reporter Brian Entin. âShe just basically vanished at one point. They even thought maybe an ambulance had taken her away because, you know, there was now, according to the source, nothing inside the house that appeared totally out of the ordinary.â
