Resident Evil and Pragmata crossover teased as Capcom profits surge

A fun social media collaboration between Pragmata and Resident Evil has begun, while Capcom raises its earnings target for the 2026 fiscal year.

Anyone familiar with Capcom’s library knows how much the company’s franchises love to reference one another, either through cheeky Easter eggs or full-on crossovers, such as Street Fighter 6 adding cosmetics based on Monster Hunter.

Capcom’s newest release, Pragmata, is no different, with its simulated New York Times Square level featuring fun posters for a Ghouls ‘N Ghosts movie and a Resident Devil 3.

Now, it’s gone one step further and taken over Capcom’s social media accounts on X; more specifically the ones for Resident Evil, which are presented as android Diana ‘hacking’ them.

This was foreshadowed with a post about someone trying to hack into the accounts from the Moon, followed up by the handles changing to ‘Diana @ Raccoon City,’ complete with new profile pictures and header images.

‘Hi everyone! I’m Diana, a state-of-the-art Pragmata from @PragmataGame! I hacked into this weird ‘Raccoon City’ sign and ended up here!’ reads an in-character introduction post.

‘I’ve never heard of ‘Resident Evil,’ so let’s collect lots of data! It looks kinda scary, but Hugh told me to be brave! Let’s have fun playing together!’

The post is accompanied by new art of Diana posing in front of a Raccoon City sign, while also wearing gear from Monster Hunter. However, at the moment, the Monster Hunter X accounts are untouched.

Subsequent posts see Diana commenting on some of the similarities between Pragmata and Resident Evil Requiem, as the voice actors for Requiem’s Grace and Emily react to Diana’s hijack.

It’s all quite cute and while it’s probably just meant as a straightforward marketing campaign, it does make you wonder if this could also be a prelude to a more substantial collaboration. Especially since it only applies to the Resident Evil accounts and not any others.

Capcom could very well add new cosmetics to both Pragmata and Resident Evil Requiem, that are inspired by one another. Possibly Monster Hunter as well considering thenew Diana art.

We already know Resident Evil Requiem is getting story DLC and a new minigame, most likely the fan favourite The Mercenaries mode. Producer Masato Kumazawa also seemed to hint that the latter may arrive very soon, telling Denfaminico Gamer, ‘If you’re planning to play it, I think clearing the main story during Golden Week will be just the right time.’

Golden Week is a series of Japanese holidays that takes place from April 29 to May 5, so Kumazawa could be alluding to the minigame releasing once Golden Week wraps up.

Capcom’s cross-promotion efforts could also be a sign of confidence in Pragmata’s performance (it sold one million copies in its first two days) since it’s willing to let the game interact with other Capcom properties.

At first, there were fan theories that Pragmata was secretly a Mega Man game of some kind. That isn’t the case, although Capcom joined in on the joke for April Fool’s Day, posting a clip of Hugh in a Mega Man costume (one that criminally isn’t in the final game).

Joke Easter eggs, like the Pragmata movie posters, are usually the only way Capcom games are referenced across franchises and while it’s easy to imagine, for example, a passing reference to Umbrella in Dino Crisis, nothing like that has ever happened… or at least not yet.

Meanwhile, Capcom has announced it is revising its earnings forecast for the fiscal year ending in March 31, 2027 thanks in part to the sales success of Resident Evil Requiem, which launched in February.

It initially expected to make 190 billion yen (about £882.3 million) in net sales, but Requiem’s ‘broad acclaim globally’ and increased sales for ‘catalogue titles from major series’ has bumped the target up to 195.3 billion yen (about £907 million).

Unlike other publishers Capcom often puts any unexpected windfalls into funding riskier projects, such as new IP like Pragmata and new entries in its less famous franchises, as evidenced by the Onimusha revival and Ōkami sequel.

The company talked about elevating certain franchises into new core IPs last year, including Devil May Cry and Ace Attorney. So, Devil May Cry 6 is hopefully already in development.

As for Ace Attorney, there’s still no sign of a new game (with the last wholly new one, Spirit Of Justice, launching 10 years ago), although Capcom is clearly interested in expanding the series’ reach.

Just recently, Capcom acknowledged demands for Ace Attorney to be localised into Arabic, though this is likely in reference to the current remasters rather than a wholly new game.
