Capcom is set to launch Resident Evil Requiem DLC this month, but despite what the rumours say, don’t expect any story content.

Just over two months after the record-breaking launch of Resident Evil Requiem, Capcom is set to drop its first slice of DLC later this month.

While an exact date hasn’t been confirmed, the game’s director Koshi Nakanishi previously announced a free minigame (presumably something in a similar vein to The Mercenaries) will be released to players in May.

As fans await more information, however, a new rumour emerged earlier today claiming story DLC, supposedly titled Extraction, will also launch this month. However, this has since been branded as ‘bulls***’ by regular Resident Evil insider Dusk Golem.

In a post on X, Dusk Golem denounced the rumour from an alleged datamining source but didn’t rule out all of its details, namely that it will feature Leon S. Kennedy and Ada Wong.

‘I’ve said before I believe Ada will be involved with [Resident Evil Requiem’s] DLC. But this specific rumour, that in May a DLC called Extraction with Leon and Ada in it, is bulls***,’ they wrote. ‘That’s not what’s releasing.’

Earlier this year, Dusk Golem said it is ‘very likely’ Ada Wong will feature in Resident Evil Requiem’s planned story DLC, not based on their sources, but from a supposed ‘slip up’ that went public accidentally, although they didn’t specify exactly what it was.

As shared on Reddit, another rumour from a Chinese leaker, who posted accurate details around Resident Evil Requiem’s story, ending, and the upcoming minigame, claims that two story expansions are planned – one involving Alyssa Ashcroft and Leon S. Kennedy, and the other involving Chris Redfield and Ada Wong.

Nakanishi confirmed in March that development on a story expansion is underway, but said that it will ‘take some time’ to finish – without giving a specific date, or window, of when to expect it.

If Ada Wong is involved in the DLC, this will inevitably trigger more speculation around the identity of Leon S. Kennedy’s wife. In Resident Evil Requiem, Leon is wearing a wedding ring, but it’s never revealed who he’s married to.

However, anyone hoping for an answer to this question in the DLC might be disappointed, as Nakanishi has previously downplayed its inclusion in interviews, saying it was simply meant to show how much Leon has changed over time.

Based on comments in a new interview on Eurogamer, it sounds like Leon won’t be settling into married life anytime soon anyway, as he could still be a major player in Resident Evil for decades to come.

When asked if they feel pressure to introduce a new cast to counter the aging characters of the original, Nakanishi said: ‘It’s not a cast iron rule that whenever we come up with a new game and we decide to release it here, that we have to exactly age everyone up to match it or anything like that.’

He added that the team ‘doesn’t feel the need to replace [its most recognisable faces] with younger characters… we don’t really think of it in those terms.’

On the subject of Leon specifically, Nakanishi concluded: ‘I mean, I think Leon is really appealing in his current form. And who knows, we could bring him back when he’s 70, and I’m sure he’ll still be a great character.’

If this means there’s a chance of a retirement home Resident Evil, where Leon sports a chainsaw-modified wheelchair, we’re all in.
