Savannah Guthrie shared how her family is in ‘agony’ after her colleagues reported on her missing 84-year-old mother.

The NBC presenter’s mum, Nancy, was taken earlier this year, and her whereabouts remain unknown, but kidnappers have now alleged that she has died.

A ransom note then offered an ‘apology’ for Nancy’s death and claimed her body could be delivered for $4m, but the note has not been authenticated.

While discussing the latest twist in the heartbreaking story live on air, Guthrie broke down in tears and begged viewers to help.

‘I love you guys, and I love this place,’ she began, wiping away tears. ‘This is unusual and unprecedented — to say the least — to be sitting here.

‘But I can’t pretend I’m not here. And so since I am, I wanted to just take the opportunity to ask people, really to beg people, to come forward. Somebody knows something.’

Nancy was taken months ago, with footage released showing a gloved and masked man in a balaclava approaching the house.

At 1.47am on February 1, the doorbell cam that captured his arrival is disconnected, and the rest of that morning is a mystery.

Guthrie continued: ‘This is a new story that today is on your radar, but this is the life that my sister lives, that I live, that my brother lives, that our extended families live, that our children live every day. And we are in agony and we cannot be at peace.’

Referencing the ongoing investigation, the Today show host added: ‘So no matter how much I try to come out here every day and to smile and find that joy — and I will, I promise I will — this is a moment to tell you that we need your help.

‘We’re begging for your help. And I’m not gonna miss that opportunity.’

The family have offered a $1million reward for anyone who comes forward with information, which she reminded viewers could be anonymous.

‘Please do the right thing for us, for our family, for our children,’ she concluded. ‘We love our mom, and we’ll never stop looking for her ever.’

No suspects have been named by the police, but they are said to be focusing on the series of ransom notes sent after Nancy’s disappearance.

The first alleged ransom note demanded $4million in Bitcoin to be sent within a few days, before the price would rise to $6million (£3million to £4.5million, respectively).

The alleged kidnappers described Nancy as ‘safe but scared’ in the note sent before the deadline.

However, investigators reportedly chose to send a far smaller sum than asked, $152, in an attempt to track where the money went. The money remains untouched.

Metro contacted the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and Savannah Guthrie’s representatives for comment.
