A new season of one of the most quietly acclaimed thriller shows is just around the corner. This is your sign to binge it.
In a TV landscape where there are more thriller shows than days in the year, it’s inevitable that much like a sneaky criminal on the run, one or two absolute gems slip under the radar.
For none is that more true than the MGM Plus series, From, starring acting legend Harold Perrineau, who has long wowed in iconic pieces of media, including Lost, Romeo + Juliet and the Matrix franchise, among many others.
In the suspense sci-fi drama, which is now in its fourth season, he plays Sheriff Boyd Stevens, a resident of a small town in Middle America that is subject to strange forces and terrifying creatures of the night, with no way to escape.
Think, The Twilight Zone meets Buffy. Many have even compared it to Lost itself.
Featuring an ensemble, this horror will leave your skin crawling as you watch to see if disaster can be averted in time, with the help of Sheriff Boyd.
There’s no doubt the show has made a mighty impression among both critics and fans, averaging a 97% Rotten Tomatoes score, with its latest scoring 100%.
‘The horror is real — and it gets real gory — but this is no simple splatterfest. Series creator John Griffin has built his world meticulously, and all his characters have their own fraught back stories and their own personal demons,’ Sydney Morning Herald said about the first season.
‘In the same vein as Lost, every answer we get leads to more questions. It’s an addiction that TV writers tend to try to capture, and From has successfully done just that,’ Starburst reflected.
The Times reflected that ‘it is beautifully shot and the horror feels distinctively American… It also had its chilling moments, although it caveated the ‘inelegant dialogue, haphazard structure and investing in characters who then just die.’
For many fans, this show has become an instant favourite.
Horror-thriller shows you need to watch after From
There’s no shortage of chilling thrillers if you’re looking for your next fix.
The Terror: A dark tale wrapped in the clothes of prestige drama (presumably to keep warm), The Terror is a haunting and entertaining story about the thin line between civility and barbarity.
Alien: Earth: Set in the iconic Alien universe in 2120, two years before Ridley Scott’s original 1979 film, Alien: Earth explores a terrifying future ruled by mega-corporations.
Teacup: Shocking and more than a little confusing, Teacup is a surprisingly gory series, which means it won’t be for everyone, but if the sight of blood and bone gets your pulse racing, then this may be the series for you

Rotten Tomatoes user John C dubbed it ‘one of the best suspense thriller series’ while Jim22001 called it ‘the most captivating and crazy show you could watch’.
‘Excellent character development for the ones that stick. Disturbing and tense with a superglue grip to mind,’ Daniel W wrote.
‘So addicting!! The storyline is so different and mind-bending,’ Alexandra P teased.
Given the ensemble cast, Harold told Buzzfeed: ‘So far, the most rewarding part [of filming] is that we are kind of like Lost; we’re in this place, and we’re all together shooting this show. We have a really shared and connected experience.’
And reflecting on carving out a space in a heavily-populated TV landscape, he added: ‘The most challenging part of it is that 500 other shows are on right now, and finding our way, or finding a space for what I think is a really good show, has been tricky and challenging.’
From seasons one to three are streaming on NOW, Sky and HBO Max. Season four will premiere on Thursday, May 14.
