TV star ‘forced to get vasectomy’ after challenging fans to increase Instagram likes

10 years ago Nathan Massey and Cara De La Hoyde went on the second season of ITV’s Love Island, not knowing what was in store.

They won the show, got pregnant, broke up, got back together, and are married with two children.

Freddie-George was born in December 2017, and Delilah was born three years later in July 2020.

But now, they don’t want any more children, and Cara is ‘desperate’ for Nathan to get a vasectomy.

Speaking on their Fubar Radio show, Not In Front Of The Kids, Cara and Nathan set a target for likes and comments to determine whether the TV personality goes through with the procedure.

Nathan decided they needed ‘500 comments and 3000 likes’ on their Instagram page, and then he would ‘book it in’.

The clipped up video of the pair discussing the life decision has received over 5,500 likes and 572 comments.

As the numbers rose, Nathan wrote under the post: ‘Should of upped the likes.’

Defending his position not to get it done, Nathan said on their show: ‘It’s the crown jewels man, what if it goes wrong?’

Cara explained her desire for him to go through with it: ‘On the occasion that we do have sex, there’s still a chance I’m going to get pregnant. I don’t want to go and have an abortion. There is no way on earth I’m going to have another child, and I don’t want to put myself through that mentally, and physically.’

After birthing their two kids, Cara thinks that ‘having a little slit in your ball bag’ doesn’t come close to what she had to experience.

A vasectomy involves a doctor numbing the skin around the testicles before making a small cut in the scrotum and sealing, blocking or cutting the tubes that carry sperm – the cut is then closed, often with dissolvable stitches.

Cara asked people listening if they thought Nathan should still be able to ‘spread his seed wherever he would like to spread it’, or get the vasectomy done.

She pleaded with fans and wrote in the comments: ‘Come on help me out 🙏🏼.’

The opinion of Instagram users engaging with the post varied. Lots expressed their desire to see Nathan go through with it, while others, such as @onemaggs, offered an alternative perspective: ‘You’re so young still, and you never know how you will feel about this decision, later on in life you may feel completely different to the present.’

@Zo3mc, on the other hand, argued: ‘Women spend their entire lives using contraception and have to experience so many changes from giving birth. It’s only fair to support your partner by doing your bit.’

The couple haven’t posted an update about the decision since the post reached their target.
