A 15-year-old girl was charged with murder after a passenger was shoved from a moving CTA train on Labor Day.
The girl, who wasn’t named because she’s under age, was arrested on Friday in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood and charged with murder, mob action and felony assault of a transit employee, Chicago police said in a statement. She was ordered detained until trial during her first appearance in court Saturday, according to the Cook County state’s attorney office.
Last Monday afternoon, a fight broke out on a Red Line train, and three attackers shoved a 29-year-old, Kyle T. Bickham, off the moving train in the first block of West 69th Street, according to police.
Bickham was then hit by another train and pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy determined he died of multiple injuries, according to the office, which ruled his death a homicide.
The death was the ninth homicide of the long holiday weekend. Police originally reported a person had jumped from the train.
Bickham’s family called for stronger security on CTA trains.
