Arts in the Dark Halloween Parade returns for its 12th year
The annual Arts in the Dark Halloween Parade stepped off on Balbo Street Saturday, drawing in an estimated 100,000 attendees with vibrant, colorful attractions such as a fire-breathing dragon, giant alebrijes and a 60-foot glow worm.
The event, which was dubbed by USA Today as “one of the best Halloween celebrations in the world,” has a goal to include artists from every field and from every ward of Chicago, organizers said.
In its 12th year, the parade featured marching bands, dance groups, and over 1,000 performers. In addition to the inclusion of youth programs and cultural organizations, 11 different high schools and three colleges participated in this year’s event.
