Lake Street bridge closure for CTA Green, Pink lines extended 2 days

CTA Green and Pink line trains will continue to be rerouted this week as ongoing construction on the Lake Street bridge is behind schedule by two days.

The two train lines were rerouted two weeks ago to accommodate the ongoing repairs to the Lake Street bridge over the Chicago River. Those repairs are behind, the Chicago Department of Transportation announced Sunday.

Green and Pink line trains were set to resume their normal routes on Monday, but CDOT says that won’t happen till Wednesday at 4 a.m.

Pink Line trains are currently not running through the Loop. Instead, the train line terminates at Racine, where riders can transfer to the Blue Line.

The Green Line has been operating in two separate sections. The Lake Street branch ends at Clinton, where riders can take a free shuttle bus to the Clark/Lake station. The Green Line’s southern branch continues running to the Loop, but winds around stations in a clockwise direction before returning south again.

The bridge has been closed to pedestrians and vehicle traffic for just over a year for renovation. Construction is estimated to last until January 2028.
