Cleveland High School student and Van Nuys resident Arianna Margarita Pineda qualified to represent Guatemala in their Women’s National Soccer Team, in the division for players under 17. The 10th grader, whose father and maternal grandmother are Guatemalan, will represent the country in tournaments this summer.
“I feel really excited to represent where I come from,” said Pineda.
Pineda, who wakes up at six in the morning to train with her coach before school, has been playing soccer since she was 4 years old. “The love for soccer has been in the family and when I started playing soccer myself, I just fell in love with the sport. Then I got into a club when I was nine, which is more competitive,” Pineda said.

Pineda’s discipline and dedication is paying off. Recently, she went to Guatemala to train with the team. “Practices were really good, and it was really hot,” she said.
The Guatemala’s National Team, which scouted for players back in February, recruited players from across the U.S.
“To see what she’s accomplished just at 15 years old amazes me,” said Silvia Sanchez, Arianna’s mom. “I played soccer at AYSO and I played high school, but I didn’t go as far as she has been going. This is just the beginning for her.”
