Donald Trump joked about his lack of athleticism while surrounded by young sports champions, saying that he barely works out.

The US president made the admission while flanked by young athletes in the Oval Office today as he signed off a student fitness test award.

The 79-year-old appeared to first congratulate the young athletes before making the occasion about himself.

He said: ‘It is a beautiful day to celebrate America’s athletic champions and traditions and physical fitness, and all of those things.

‘I work so hard on a personal basis.

‘I work out so much – about one minute a day max. If I’m lucky.’

The POTUS has previously let it slip publicly that he is not the biggest fan of physical exertion – unless it is golf.

According to a 2017 New Yorker profile, he reportedly considers exercise as misguided and that people should not strain their ‘battery’ too much.

At the same time, Trump has previously advised Americans to sleep as little as possible.

In his 2004 book, Trump claimed he sleeps around four hours a night.

Instead of sleep, his number one fuel may be Diet Coke.

The president has admitted to guzzling down several fizzy drinks daily, along with copious amounts of fast food.

Rumours have swirled around Trump’s physical and mental health.

Earlier this year, mysterious bruises appeared on his hands, followed by swollen ankles during his trip to Florida over the weekend.

Then there are the social media outbursts and rants on Truth Social.

Last month, Trump called Bruce Springsteen a ‘dried up prune’ at the height of the conflict with Iran.

A couple of days later, he posted an expletive-riddled rant over the Strait of Hormuz situation.

Targeted at Iran, he said: ‘Open the F***in’ Strait, you crazy b******s, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH!’

Trump will turn 80 on June 14. He is the oldest person to be inaugurated as the president of the United States.
