New board officers were elected Thursday, Sept. 10, for the Port of Los Angeles harbor commission board.
The Los Angeles harbor commission selected its new officers on Thursday, Sept. 10, with two new board members tapped as president and vice president.
Beatrice Hsu, who joined the five-member panel in June, was elected president, while Yolanda De La Torre, who came on board earlier this year, will be her V.P. Their terms as officers will last a year.
Hsu, a real estate executive and community leader, officially filled the vacant slot on the Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners left when John A. Pérez stepped down to take a seat on the Los Angeles City Fire Commission.
Hsu is the founder and principal of BCH Group, which provides independent advisory services in real estate strategy, investments and development. She also serves as the board director, and is the founding CEO of Builders Alliance, a nonprofit dedicated to home rebuilding and community recovery following the January 2025 Los Angeles wildfires. Hsu is also a board member at the James Campbell Company, a privately held real estate firm headquartered in Hawaii.
Previously, she served as a board member, board president and interim CEO for Los Angeles World Airports; executive vice president of development for Brookfield Properties in Los Angeles; and senior vice president of development and forward planning at Related California, a Los Angeles real estate firm specializing in urban infill development, including affordable housing, mixed-income housing, public-private projects and commercial mixed-use development.
Wilmington resident De La Torre, meanwhile, was nominated for the harbor commission by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass in December and came on board the following month.
She replaced Michael Muñoz.
Another nominee — Sheila Lewis, an executive with the Watts Labor Community Action Committee — is awaiting final confirmation to also join the commission, which would bring the panel to its full five-member number. She would replace Lucille Roybal-Allard, who was the commission’s president before she stepped down this summer.
Current sitting commissioners also include Lee Williams (whose term expires June 30, 2028), Ed Renwick (whose term expires June 30, 2028). Renwick has been serving as vice president.
