Pasadena’s Chalk Festival set to draw a crowd this weekend

The ground is their canvas. And this weekend, it will be Pasadena ground.

Pasadena’s beloved Chalk Art Festival is set for Saturday and Sunday at Brookside Park, next to the Kidspace Museum and Rose Bowl.

The event is expected to draw crowds to see more than 500 chalk artists from all over the region create murals over an area that spans two football fields-worth of pavement.

The art will span genres, too, ranging from animation, fantasy, humorous and inspirational art, icons of pop culture, and 3-dimensional illusionary art.

And in many cases, you’ll be able to see it in the process of being created over the two-day weekend.

The event, celebrating its 33rd year in the city, has been called “A Museum without Walls.” Also featuring music by DJ Cadillac G and a variety of food trucks for different tastes.

Attendees are encouraged to picnic in the park.

The event will also include a silent auction of “affordable art” created by the artists to benefit the event’s organizers, the Light Bringer Project, a local nonprofit that promotes arts programs in local schools.

Among attractions, will also be artist Simón Estrada, who will be onsite sharing his monster art. Organizers enouraged visitors to swing by the children’s chalking zone to see his interactive mural. The Altadena Girls, a non-profit formed in the wake of the Eaton fire, will be there to share resources for teen girls after crisis.

The nearby Kidspace Museum will be open and operating business during normal hours, so you can make a day out of it.

The event is from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, and from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, at Brookside Park, Pasadena.

Entry is free, and so is parking at Brookside Park Lot I.
