Road rage, bottle hurling, and then a shooting outside a South Side police station.
That’s what police say happened Thursday afternoon.
The situation began about 4:40 p.m. when a passenger from a Toyota Camry threw a bottle through the sunroof of a black Chevrolet Equinox, cracking its windshield, during a road rage incident along the Dan Ryan Expressway, according to a police report.
They pulled over at an unlikely spot: outside the 2nd District station, 5101 S. Wentworth Ave., where two occupants of the Toyota got out along with four occupants of the SUV and the fight escalated when the Toyota’s driver, a 24-year-old woman, allegedly shot one of the SUV passengers, a 16-year-old girl.
The girl, wounded in the right shoulder, was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where she was listed in good condition, according to the report.
The 24-year-old fled the scene but officers took her into custody outside her home, where her car was registered.
The woman was arrested, a weapon was recovered, but no charges have been announced by police.
Area 1 detectives are investigating.
