Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche jumped into the online feud ignited yesterday between U.S. Congressman Dan Goldman (D-NY) and DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin over the DOJ’s indictment against the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).
Blanche and FBI Director Kash Patel held a press conference Wednesday, alleging the SPLC, a nonprofit legal advocacy organization, had secretly paid informants in white supremacist organizations, including the Ku Klux Klan.
Goldman reacted: “The DOJ uses paid informants all the time — why is it OK for them but not the SPLC. @splcenter plays a vital role in fighting hatred, yet has been unfairly targeted by Trump and House Republicans since day one. This politicized intimidation needs to stop, now.”
McLaughlin replied: “Correction: the @splcenter plays a vital role in *funding* hatred.”
Blanche joined the exchange on Thursday, writing: “Hey Dan, remember when you were a federal prosecutor? Man, you really have been captured by the extremists in your own party. At least you’ve gone all in on the asinine talking points.”
X users on both sides of the aisle are replying to Blanche with complaints about the amount of time he spends on social media. As one replied: “Stay out of the political fray and do your temporary job. How about you be the one to actually keep Trump’s campaign promises instead of engaging in petty squabbles? Wouldn’t that be something.”
Another wrote: “If you could just start arresting people instead of posting that would be great.”
