The agent of Julian Nagelsmann has confirmed that the Germany boss has held talks about returning to Bayern Munich – though they are not the only club he has spoken to.

Despite being axed by the German giants a little over a year ago, Nagelsmann is once again a man in demand and has been linked with a host of top jobs.

In addition to being the frontrunner to replace Thomas Tuchel back at the Allianz Arena he has also been linked with the Liverpool job as a potential successor to the departing Jurgen Klopp.

The 36-year-old is also thought to be on the radar of Manchester United’s new minority owners Ineos should they decide to part company with Erik ten Hag at the end of the season.

A move to Old Trafford now seems very unlikely, though, with Nagelsmann’s agent revealing that an announcement regarding his next club could come in the next week and he has held encouraging talks with Bayern.

Asked about claims Nagelsmann is in advanced talks to return to Bavaria, Volker Struth told the Spielmacher podcast: ‘Everyone is asking me the question: is Nagelsmann going back to Bayern or what is he doing?

‘It will be decided soon. In the next five, six or seven days.

‘It would be complete nonsense to say that we are not talking to interested parties.

‘Without saying who the interested parties are, I can only say that it’s not just Bayern Munich [we are speaking to]. That’s normal.

‘That’s my job and it would be a bit of a joke in the media to say we’re not in talks. Of course we are talking now.’

Following Bayern’s 1-0 win (3-2 on aggregate) over Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday night, club CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen was also asked if Nagelsmann might return to the Allianz Arena and replied: ‘We’ll see.’

Nagelsmann spent nearly two years at Bayern, joining from RB Leipzig in 2021, and enjoyed a 71 per cent win rate but was axed in March 2023 and replaced by Tuchel.

He has been in charge of the German national team since September, winning three of his six games in charge, and will lead the team at this summer’s Euros – meaning he will have a delayed start to pre-season with his new club.

Liverpool are thought to have explored a potential move for Nagelsmann after Xabi Alonso decided to stay at Bayer Leverkusen, though Sporting’s Ruben Amorim is now favourite for the job.

United, meanwhile, will wait until the end of the season to decide the fate of Ten Hag, with the under-pressure Dutchman still competing for the FA Cup and European qualification.
