UConn’s Dan Hurley Earns Massive March Madness Bonuses Ahead of Title Game

Dan Hurley has built one of the most successful runs in college basketball, and his postseason success continues to come with significant financial rewards. As UConn prepares to face Michigan in the 2026 national championship game, Hurley has already secured a substantial bonus payout tied to the Huskies’ March Madness run.

According to CT Insider, Hurley has earned $775,000 in bonuses during this year’s NCAA Tournament alone. With one more win, that total could increase significantly.

Dan Hurley Bonus Structure Rewards March Madness Success

Hurley’s contract includes a tiered bonus system that rewards postseason advancement. The structure has paid off during UConn’s latest run to the national title game.

Hurley earned $25,000 simply for reaching the NCAA Tournament. Advancing past the second round added $75,000, while a Sweet 16 appearance brought in another $125,000.

UConn’s Elite Eight victory over Duke earned Hurley a $200,000 bonus. The biggest payout so far came after the Huskies’ Final Four win over Illinois, which secured him an additional $300,000.

If UConn wins the national championship, Hurley will receive a $500,000 bonus. That would bring his total NCAA Tournament earnings this postseason to $1.75 million.

Hurley’s current contract runs six years for $50 million, with an annual salary of $7.75 million. That figure ranks him among the highest-paid coaches in college basketball.

Dan Hurley Turned Down NBA Offer to Stay at UConn

Hurley had the opportunity to leave college basketball but chose to remain at UConn. He turned down an offer from the Los Angeles Lakers before signing his current extension.

The decision has kept Hurley at the center of one of the most consistent programs in the NCAA. Over the past six seasons, he has led UConn to six NCAA Tournament appearances and two national championships.

Now, the Huskies are one win away from a third title in four years. A victory would further establish Hurley’s position among the top active coaches in the sport.

Hurley also holds one of the best NCAA Tournament winning percentages among coaches with at least 25 games, reflecting his team’s sustained success in March.

Andrea Hurley’s ‘Lucky Charm’ Moment During Final Four

Hurley’s latest win may have included an unexpected assist from his wife, Andrea Hurley. During an appearance with CBS Sports, Andrea shared a story about nearly forgetting Hurley’s game-day bracelet ahead of the Final Four.

“He wears them every single game — they break all the time,” Andrea said. “They’ve been breaking for years and fall over the floor. So I string them, and I had to go to the Hobby Lobby to get more wooden beads.”

Andrea realized she left the bracelet at the hotel after arriving at the arena. She quickly returned to retrieve it and received a police escort back to ensure Hurley had it before the game.

“I grabbed the beads, then I got a police escort back with the holy beads. So I saved it — the win is all mine,” Andrea joked.

UConn went on to defeat Illinois and advance to the championship game.

The UConn Head Coach Previews Championship Mindset Ahead of Michigan

Hurley emphasized his team’s approach following the Final Four win. He highlighted UConn’s discipline and resilience as key factors in its success.

“We’re a tough program, we’re a group of fighters,” Hurley said postgame. “We’ve got incredible will. We go into these games, we’re ready for battle… It’s a life-and-death struggle for us to get to Monday night for the opportunity to win a championship.”

UConn will face Michigan in the national title game on Monday. The Huskies are seeking their third championship in four seasons after winning titles in 2023 and 2024.
