Cornerback Zah Frazier, a fifth-round pick from 2025 who sat out all last season with what the Bears called a personal issue, was waived on Thursday.
The Bears were intrigued by the UTSA cornerback’s 6-3 frame — gigantic, for a cornerback — but learned of the personal issue after the draft. Frazier was put on the non-football injury/illness list in August, costing him his rookie season.
In January, general manager Ryan Poles said that Frazier had a “mountain to climb” to contribute in 2026 because he missed so much time last season.
“He needed to play,” Poles said.
Had Frazier remained on the roster, he would have been eligible to participate in the team’s rookie minicamp, which starts Friday morning at Halas Hall. The Bears drafted Texas cornerback Malik Muhammad in Round 4 last month — he figured to be ahead of Frazier in the pecking order this year.
The mayor questioned why any lawmaker from Chicago would consider providing a massive tax break for a professional sports team valued at nearly $9 billion.
