A 21-year-old South Bend, Ind. man died after being shot early Saturday near Ford City Mall on the Southwest Side.
Martin Isaaccantu Murillo, 21, was outside about 2:50 a.m. in the 7600 block of South Cicero Avenue when someone approached him and fired shots, according to Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Murillo suffered a head wound and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 9:57 a.m., authorities said.
The gunman fled in a red SUV, police said. No arrests were reported.
Ford City is slated for closure later this month. A Cook County judge ordered it to shut down after complaints from city officials citing decay at the property as an “imminent danger” to tenants and shoppers.
