Despite more than once saying they’re done with the game, CD Projekt Red has announced another new update for Cyberpunk 2077.
Cyberpunk 2077 may have launched in horrendous fashion in 2020, but the conversation around the sci-fi role player has changed dramatically since.
This is largely down to developer CD Projekt Red’s consistent updates, along with the Phantom Liberty expansion. Now, the prospect of a sequel – even if it is still years away – seems like an enticing prospect.
While CD Projekt Red has said numerous times that it is done releasing major updates for the game, it turns out they were telling a few fibs, and that there’s still more to come.
The developer has announced a new update will be rolled out on Thursday, October 22. It is called the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Update (2.5), and as you may surmise from the title, it will feature content to tie in with Netflix’s Cyberpunk: Edgerunners season two, which is available to stream from today (October 20).
CD Projekt Red hasn’t outlined what the update will contain, but it has teased ‘cyberware customisation, a new dual-wielding playstyle, and more’ in its announcement post. The new playstyle suggests this might include a whole new skill tree, so it sounds like it could be pretty substantial.

A video presentation will take place Wednesday, October 21 at 4pm BST to show off the update. The 2.5 update will be rolled out across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC from October 22, but it will come to Switch 2 at a later date.
CD Projekt Red previously released an update to coincide with Edgerunners season one in 2022, which added new weapons, gigs, and Easter eggs related to the series.
Cyberpunk 2077 has sold over 40 million copies, putting it on the same level as Hogwarts Legacy in terms of success. A sequel is in development, but it isn’t expected to launch until around 2030 at the earliest.
Earlier this month, it was announced a live action movie, set within the Cyberpunk 2077 universe, is in the works at Paramount.
CD Projekt Red’s next big title is The Witcher 4, which will be preceded by a new expansion for The Witcher 3, titled Songs Of The Past, next year.
