Netflix has confirmed it will be pushing back the upcoming documentary about glam rock star and convicted sexual abuser Gary Glitter.
Hunting Gary Glitter is a three-episode series which was scheduled for release on October 14, with the release date and trailer dropping just last week.
However, a spokesperson for Netflix confirmed the streaming giant has been forced to push back the release date after ‘new legal information’ has come to light.
They told Metro: ‘We have made the decision to pause the release of Hunting Gary Glitter (originally due to launch 14 October).
‘This follows new legal information we recently became aware of.
‘We’re not able to share further detail at this time, but we’ll provide an update as soon as we’re in a position to do so.’
The docuseries is directed by Sebastian Smith, best known for Locked Up Abroad, and produced by Voltage TV, the team behind ITV’s 2021 documentary Savile: Portrait of a Predator.
Netflix has also pulled the trailer from its YouTube channel.
The trailer opened with Glitter being interviewed on television, and was asked: ‘It seems to me that when you’re in the public eye, you don’t have secrets anymore.’
The singer – real name Paul Gadd – then eerily replied: ‘Yeah, well, I’ve still got a few secrets.’
Gadd was one of the most successful glam rock singers of the 1970s, but his popularity disintegrated when he faced several allegations of child sexual abuse and was later convicted for possession of child pornography.
After being made to sign the sex offenders register, Gadd left the UK in 2000 and settled in Vietnam after being deported from Cambodia.
In 2006, he was eventually jailed for three years in Vietnam for sexually abusing two underage girls. He was later convicted in 2015 for crimes committed between 1975 and 1980, as part of Operation Yewtree, and was released in February 2023 after serving just half his sentence. However, he was recalled for breaching the terms of his license.
In July 2026, he was charged with more historical sexual offenses allegedly dating between 1978 and 1981. He appeared via video link at Westminster Magistrates’ Court to deny the charges, and remains remanded in custody as legal proceedings continue.
A synopsis of the series read: ‘A string of dogged journalists chases fugitive pop star Gary Glitter across the globe — from Cuba to Cambodia to Vietnam — determined to expose the child sexual abuse he concealed behind decades of chart-topping fame.
‘This documentary follows their pursuit alongside the survivors who speak out, charting Glitter’s 1997 conviction, through to his years on the run, and eventual incarceration.’
Amazon Prime Video and ITV are also working on their own separate Gary Glitter documentaries.
