Police arrested five people Thursday, Aug. 13, accused of stealing the identities of residents at a Glendale apartment complex to apply for credit cards.
Detectives first received reports of people stealing mail from an apartment complex in the 500 block of West Colorado Street, according to Glendale police.
During the investigation, they learned several people used residents’ personal information to fraudulently apply for credit cards and then tampered with mailbox keyholes to get the credit cards once they were mailed, police said.
Detectives served multiple search warrants at the complex and arrested five people on suspicion of various fraud, identity theft and burglary-related charges. After serving the search warrants, they discovered personal identifying information belonging to other people, credit card encoding devices, cash, gold and credit cards, police said.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are working to identify any other fraud victims. Authorities ask anyone with information related to the investigation to call 818-548-4840.
