As injuries stack up at wide receiver, the Bears signed veteran Ray-Ray McCloud on Monday. He will have a narrow path to make the final roster, but few of his competitors are as accomplished as him.
McCloud, 29, has played eight seasons and is not far removed from being a starter. He played every game for the Falcons, including 13 starts, in 2024 and had 62 catches for 686 yards and a touchdown, plus 10 rushes for 79 yards.
He has bounced around since, though. He began last season with the Falcons, then was cut in October. He resurfaced with the Giants soon after, but played just two games and hadn’t been in any organization until Monday.
He also has significant experience as a punt and kick returner, which could help him stick around.
The Bears will be without wide receiver Luther Burden the rest of the preseason because of a groin injury and waived injured receiver Kyron Hudson on Monday to open a spot for McCloud.
McCloud was a sixth-round pick by the Bills in 2018 and gained some traction a few years later with the Steelers. He has played in eight playoff games, including Super Bowl LVIII with the 49ers. The Bears are his seventh team.
McCloud played four games for the Falcons last season and two for the Giants.

The Bears spent less than an hour on the turf field at Stevenson High School before calling it a day, but an intense scrimmage awaits Tuesday.

Burden should be recovered and ready to play against the Panthers on Sept. 13, and coach Ben Johnson dismissed the injury as a non-issue.
