The Browns will start veteran quarterback Deshaun Watson against the Bears on Saturday at Soldier Field.
Second-year player Shedeur Sanders figures to play the second half. Coach Todd Monken told reporters Wednesday that he wanted both Watson and Sanders to experience a two-minute drill at the end of their respective half against the Bears.
Sanders will start the Browns’ second preseason game. The two have generally split time with the first time during the first two weeks of training camp.
Watson will experience game action Saturday for the first time in almost two years. He suffered his first of two Achilles tendon tears on Oct. 20, 2024. He’s played just 19 games in Cleveland because of injuries and suspension. He was banned 11 games and fined $5 million in 2022 after being accused of sexual misconduct.
Sanders, who sank to the fifth round in the 2025 draft, threw seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions in seven starts as a rookie.
Thursday, Bears coach Ben Johnson will announce which starters he plans to play Saturday.
Johnson is still coaching Williams hard, but it now feels more like collaboration than scolding as their partnership gets tighter.

There won’t be many more opportunities for Williams to do what he did Tuesday afternoon — face players in full pads chasing him. Williams looked promising in the Bears’ scrimmage on the Halas Hall backfields.
