Search underway for Chicago’s next Christmas tree

Calling all Norway spruces or fir trees – the search is underway for Chicago’s next Christmas tree.

Tree owners across the Chicago area can submit a tree for consideration as the centerpiece of the 2026 Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, taking place Friday, Nov. 20, in Millennium Park near North Michigan Avenue and East Washington Street, according to a press release from the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events.

Tree submissions are open through Oct. 23.

Trees that are given for consideration must be 45 feet tall, located less from 50 miles from the city’s Loop neighborhood and are preferred to be a Norway spruce or fir tree, according to the press release.

Tree entries should be emailed to DCASE@CityofChicago.org and should include the owner’s name, address, phone number and email address, as well as a brief description explaining why the tree should become Chicago’s official Christmas Tree.

At least two pictures of the tree, including one photograph from afar and one close-up, are also required.
