If you’re travelling on the London Underground, especially during rush hour, you could be lucky to find standing room in the carriage, let alone an empty seat.

But during quieter times, there can often be a number of open seats available – so where should you choose to sit?

Regular passenger Olamide Grace posted a video discussing seating options on the Tube which has stirred up quite the debate over the ‘best seat’ on the train.

She ran through the pros and cons of different seats in each carriage – but in the end there was a clear winner.

Discussing the seat next to the door and glass shield, she said: ‘This seat is great because you only sit next to one stranger and you can rest your head on that window.

‘But imagine the amount of bacteria that you are building up. And you’re close to the door in case of danger as well.’

Then came the pros and cons of the middle seat, with Olamide explaining: ‘The middle seat is great because you get both arm rests but you’re always moving your feet and people are always stepping on your crepes.

‘And if they take both armrests you’re left like one squashie in the middle.’

And what about perching on a ledge next to the end doors? ‘The ledge is great if there’s nowhere to sit, but do you sit on it or do you stand? Because my legs are always dangling like humpty dumpty over the wall,’ she said.

‘I don’t like being close to the door because people are always pushing up on you.’

While not a place to sit, Olamide said the central pole at the entrance to the carriage is a great place to stand – even if it is ‘always sticky’.

Londoners were quick to dub the first seat next to the door the best but noted that it was a priority seat and so should be offered to those who need it.

One commuter wrote: ‘I can rest my head if tired and don’t have to worry about dozing off and leaning on somebody.’

Another said that the seat with the glass sheet is ‘great’, ‘but you got be willing to give it up for someone who actually needs it’.
