The UC Irvine men’s volleyball team beat top-ranked UCLA in five sets on Saturday, 25-23, 19-25, 25-23, 19-25, 16-14 to win the Los Angeles Regional at Pauley Pavilion and advance to the NCAA semifinals next Saturday against No. 4 Ball State.
UCLA held set point 14-12 before the Anteaters (20-8) rallied for the final four points of the match, two on kills by Andreas Brink.
Brinck led UCI with a career-high 17 kills. Trevor Clark and Andrej Jokanovic each had 14 kills.
For UCLA, which finished its season with a record of 29-2, Sean Kelly had 26 kills and two aces.
In other matches Saturday, Long Beach State beat Loyola Chicago, 25-21, 25-21, 25-10. Skyler Varga led Long Beach State with 14 kills and Connor Bloom added 12.
USC faced No. 2 Hawaii in the night’s final match.
