The Bears aren’t in Charlotte anymore.
One week after they scored 59 points in a season-opening win against the Panthers, the Bears managed just one field goal in the first half and trail the Vikings 6-3 at halftime.
The Bears’ offense was as sloppy as the weather in the first half. On their penultimate drive of the half, they completed three-straight offensive penalties — a false start, delay of game and intentional grounding — and four over five plays. They backpedaled from the Vikings’ 30 to the Vikings’ 49. Moving back out of field goal range, the Bears were forced to punt.
Williams threw his first interception of the season in the first quarter and finished the half 9-for-14 for 60 yards and a 43.7 passer rating. His circus scramble set up the Bears’ only points of the half, a 50-yard Cairo Santos field goal in the first quarter. The blitz-happy Vikings sacked him once — on the final play of the half.
The Vikings made kicks of 35 and 49 yards to get to six points. Thirty of quarterback Carson Wentz’s 70 passing yards came on one first-quarter throw to Justin Jefferson.
