The last time Bears quarterback Caleb Williams played at Soldier Field, his scramble-and-throw on the final play of regulation against the Rams wowed the NFL world.
In his return Sunday, Williams rattled off a run that was almost as impressive in the first quarter against the NFC North rival Vikings.
On third-and-12 from the opposing 38 on the Bears’ first drive, Williams tried to slip out of a collapsing pocket to his left, only to be cut off by the Vikings.
He turned his back to the line of scrimmage and ran back to his right. He went 19 yards behind the line of scrimmage as he looped back, high stepping as defensive end Dallas Turner dove to try to trip him up. Williams ran all the way back to the right sideline, where he slammed on the brakes as Levi Drake
Rodriguez dove to try to tackle him.
He was eventually pushed out of bounds after a six-yard gain. It was enough to set up Cairo Santos’ 50-yard field goal to tie the game.
