Doors on Riot Fest Day 3 delayed as crews clean up the grounds after heavy rains

Of course there would be rainnnnn on Alanis day.

Ironic or not, the very wet weather on Sunday put an early damper on the final day of Riot Fest. Just before 11 a.m., when gates typically open, organizers announced the festival would be delayed to until at least 2 p.m. “due to the overnight rains and to remediate the moistness of the park grounds.”

The schedule was updated to accommodate for the later start time, with teen punk band Largemouth, who won the community band contest, taking to the stage at 2:15 p.m. Local indie rockers Twin Peaks got pushed to a later time, performing at 8:30 p.m. instead of the original 6:30 p.m. slot.

The delayed start comes the day after when the festival was cut short due to impending storms, and nearly all of Saturday’s music acts were able to be salvaged with earlier and shorter set times.

Even so, the ongoing rain this weekend has finally caught up with Douglass Park — on Sunday, crews were seen vacuuming up excess water, laying mulch and wood chips on particularly vulnerable areas like the softball fields near the Rise Stage and preparing the park for the estimated 50,000 fans who flock to the festival.

In addition to ‘90s goddess Alanis Morissette making her festival debut, other anticipated acts scheduled to appear Sunday include the debut of 95-year-old William Shatner and his metal band The *uckers, Chicago-born Patti Smith, local indie rockers Twin Peaks, Elvis Costello & The Imposters and dueling headliners Pierce the Veil and Insane Clown Posse. If the rap duo are cut for any reason, attendees always have the chance to check out Insane Clown Puppies at the Logan Arcade in RiotLand. It’s the band’s animatronic tribute, featuring Violent Stray and Scooby 2 Dope, not too far from the Riot Fest’s perennial John Stamos butter statue.
